Accessibility

These notes will help prepare you for your visit at Heartwood. We’ve done our best to lay out information about our Rosyln and Pulford locations that will support you in your experience here. We are always open to feedback and would love to hear your ideas to be added to this list.

Please let us know your accessibility needs before your visit.

  • There are a few stairs without a railing outside leading up to the front door of the building. There is also a ramp available from the parking lot in the back
  • Our doors remain locked at all times. If you are visiting or have an appointment, you must ring the doorbell to the right of the door and a staff member will let you in. At Pulford, our ramp leads to the side door where there is no doorbell. Be sure to have your therapist’s phone number on hand to let them know when you have arrived
  • Our counselling sessions are available in-person, online, over the phone or on doxy.me
  • Our group sessions are usually in-person but some of our group sessions are available over Zoom or Teams
  • Some offices are located on the main floor and some are up many stairs with railings. If you require an accessible office, please let us know and we will make sure to book your appointment accordingly
  • Our main group room at Pulford is not accessible by wheelchair or mobility device. Please let us know your accessibility needs when signing up
  • Wifi is available
  • Some spaces have fluorescent lighting and some will have natural light, lamps, or both. If you require a particular type of lighting, please let us know and we will do our best to set up the lighting in a way that works for you
  • At Heartwood, we do our best to provide a scent-free environment. Please help keep our spaces safe for everyone by refraining, whenever possible, from using strong scents while attending our sites. If you have a scent reaction while visiting us, we encourage you to talk to your Counsellor or Group Facilitator who will work with you to develop an accommodation plan
  • Service animals are allowed in our buildings
  • Our buildings are smudge-friendly
  • We use air purifiers in each individual office to improve air quality and reduce viral transmission.
  • You are always welcome to wear a mask to your appointments and can request your therapist to wear one also
  • We use white-noise machines in our hallways to prevent the transfer of personal information during a session
  • Our waiting areas do not have music or have very quiet music. There are usually no more than two people waiting at the same time so it is a fairly calm space
  • We are a non-gendered organization. While accessing our spaces, you will see folks of all genders
  • All washrooms on-site are non-gendered. There are accessible washrooms available on the main floor. When you enter the building through the door with the ramp, head straight past the kitchen and the washroom will be on you right side
  • Some of our waiting spaces and offices have size-inclusive chairs. Please let us know your chair needs before your appointment. We are working on securing funding for more size-inclusive chairs
  • If you are arriving by car, please park on the street. There is 1-hour free parking in front of both locations. Unfortunately, we do not have parking lot spots available to clients. For accessible parking, please connect with us before your appointment and we will do our best to assist you
  • Both streets have nearby reserved accessibility parking provided by the City of Winnipeg and marked with signage.
  • Many therapists provide sensory fidgets if desired. Participants are also welcome to bring their own
